Über diese Tour
Step back 5,000 years on a relaxed private day trip from Shanghai to Liangzhu, the UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site near Hangzhou that reveals one of the earliest civilisations in China. Your English-speaking guide and private car pick you up at your hotel and drive you southwest into Zhejiang.
You begin at the Liangzhu Museum, a beautifully designed building where, with the help of your guide, you decode the famous jade cong and jade bi artefacts and the sophisticated ritual order of this ancient kingdom. The architecture itself, all clean lines and reflecting water, embodies an Eastern sense of harmony.
From there you move into the Liangzhu Ancient City Archaeological Park, the heart of the site. Following gentle, level paths you climb the low rise of Mojiaoshan to take in the layout of the former royal city, walk along the ancient city walls and waterways that trace this prehistoric culture, and pass through tranquil, restorative scenery. A favourite stop is the deer park, where you can meet gentle deer among ponds and swaying reeds, an idyllic spot for photos.
This is an easy, strolling-paced day designed for everyone, with no hiking and only soft, flat walking. It is equally rewarding for history lovers and for those who simply want a peaceful, photogenic day in nature.
When you have finished exploring, your private car returns you comfortably to your Shanghai hotel.
