Xinchang Xiayanbei 2-Day Private Trek: Cloud-Sea Sunrise & Nineteen Peaks

★★★★★ 5 (18)⏱ 2 days and 1 hour · Private🗣 English guide

Overview

A two-day private mountain escape to a cloud-wrapped tea-terrace village above Xinchang, with sunrise over a sea of clouds and the dramatic Nineteen Peaks gorge.

About This Tour

This private two-day trek leads to Xiayanbei, a remote tea-farming village perched on a mountain back high above Xinchang in eastern Zhejiang, one of the region's best spots to watch a sunrise break over a rolling sea of clouds. With your own English-speaking guide and private vehicle, you first stop at the Ming-Qing village of Meizhu to taste local snacks and see intangible-heritage crafts such as paper-cutting, then hike up to Xiayanbei, where stone-built houses look down over terraced tea fields and folded ridgelines. As the cloud sea rises the scenery turns genuinely fairy-tale, and the night brings glowing tea-garden paths and a hearty farmhouse dinner. Day two is the spectacular Nineteen Peaks loop (Chuanyan Shijiu Feng): a chain of needle-like sandstone summits rising at the junction of two rivers, explored via a cliffside plank walkway through a deep gorge of caves and crags. This trip suits travelers who love dramatic Chinese mountain landscapes, rural tea culture and that magical above-the-clouds sunrise. Best in clear, dry seasons. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: spring and autumn for clearest cloud-sea and sunrise odds • Fitness level: moderate; gorge walkway and peak loop with steady ascent • Sunrise and sea-of-clouds views depend entirely on weather and are not guaranteed • Early wake-up (around 5:00 am) required for sunrise on Day 2 • Camping option available at the village for those who prefer it

Day 1: Shanghai / Xiayanbei | Heritage village & cloud-top tea hamlet

Depart Shanghai by private vehicle (about 4 hours) and stop first at the Ming-Qing village of Meizhu for lunch, sampling local tofu buns, machi rice cakes and plum-blossom cakes while exploring old ancestral halls and intangible-heritage crafts such as paper-cutting and rice-wine distilling. Continue to the trailhead and hike up to Xiayanbei, a village built on a mountain back, its name meaning 'below the rock ridge.' Stone houses overlook a landscape of layered tea terraces and rolling ridgelines, and when the cloud sea rises the whole valley turns dreamlike, which is why this is one of Xinchang's favorite camping and sunrise spots. In the late afternoon walk the village viewpoints and glowing tea-garden paths, then share a farmhouse dinner of local mountain dishes with your guide before settling in for the night. Lunch: own choice in Meizhu. Dinner: farmhouse meal. Overnight: mountain guesthouse (or optional camping).

Day 2: Nineteen Peaks Loop | Cloud-sea sunrise & cliffside gorge

Rise around 5:00 am (optional) to catch sunrise over the sea of clouds, then rest before a farmhouse breakfast amid the lifting morning mist. Around 8:30 drive to the Chuanyan Nineteen Peaks scenic area, a chain of needle-like sandstone summits rising at the meeting point of the Jingling and Hanfei rivers. Following the Qianzhang You Gu gorge upstream along mountain streams, the trail climbs steadily, with the option to add the thrilling Feilong cliffside plank walkway. You weave past the famed peaks, through a rock-pierced cave for which the range is named, and ticking off landmarks such as Wanghai, Ma'an and Lanchuan peaks, with airy summit views over patchwork farmland. After a carbohydrate-rich Xinchang street-food lunch, transfer back to Shanghai, arriving in the evening. Lunch: Xinchang local food. Overnight: not included (end of tour).
