My camera roll says the trail was the big moment. My actual favourite was Shanghai and Hangzhou; it felt less obvious and more personal.
What helped was simple: pickup and the trail start were timed well, so we were walking before the busiest part of the day. Water and rest stops were discussed clearly.
Looking back, my legs noticed the climbs the next morning. I would still do the same route, just with lighter shoes and fewer things in my daypack. I would rather keep the pause at the trail than add another stop.
Looking back, I tend to switch off when tours become a stream of dates. Here, the stories around Shanghai and Hangzhou gave me enough to hold on to without overloading the day.
Honestly, a full 9 hours, in the good sense. Wear comfortable shoes and leave the evening loose.
