Three days in Xi'an was the perfect amount of time. The Terracotta Army was obviously the highlight and our private guide got us there right at opening before the crowds swallowed the place. Standing in front of Pit 1 with nobody jostling you is something else. He also explained how each warrior's face is different, which I would have completely missed on my own.

We cycled the top of the ancient city wall as part of day two and it was such a fun way to see Xi'an. The guide rented the bikes for us and timed it for late afternoon light. The 'unique experiences' part wasn't just a tagline either, we did a dumpling-making session that the kids still talk about.

Private tour means private tour. It was just us, a driver and the guide, and the pace bent completely to what we wanted. Spent extra time at the Terracotta Warriors museum because I'm a history nerd, then cut the Muslim Quarter shorter than planned. Flexible and well organised.

Good introduction to Xi'an in a short window. Terracotta Army, city wall and the bell tower area all covered comfortably in three days. Lunch at a local noodle place was a nice touch. Only small gripe was the hotel was a bit far from the centre, otherwise smooth.

Booked this as a stopover between Beijing and Chengdu and it was the right call. Three days, fully private, very efficient. The guide arranged the bullet train pickup and we never once worried about logistics. Terracotta Warriors in the morning, free wandering in the Muslim Quarter for street food at night.
