4-Day Mohe Northern Lights and Arctic Village Tour

Mohe really is the end of China, and chasing the aurora over Beiji Village in the frozen forest was magic. We didn't catch a strong aurora every night but the snow-covered taiga, the Russian-border viewpoints along the Heilongjiang and the ice-fishing made every day special. Dress for serious cold.

Even as a Norwegian used to the north, Mohe in deep winter blew me away. China's northernmost town with frozen rivers and forests, and we stood at the actual northern tip at Beiji Village. The ice-fishing on the Heilongjiang was such a local experience.

We did the summer-solstice version for the white nights, and it's a totally different but equally wonderful Mohe, endless dusk, green forests and the Russian border views. Four days was a great length. Our guide knew the best riverside spots along the Heilongjiang.

An adventure to China's far north. The frozen forests and border viewpoints are beautiful and ice-fishing was a fun first. Aurora is never guaranteed of course, but the whole Arctic-village atmosphere of Mohe made the trip worthwhile. Bring your warmest gear.
