I went in most excited about the giant pandas. Funny enough, Chengdu is the part I kept talking about afterward. The time around the giant pandas was not the part I would cut.

What helped was simple: there was no theatrical “VIP” treatment, just useful organisation and a guide who noticed when we needed a pause. That suited us. For 3 hours around Chengdu, the pace felt about right.

Looking back, the schedule is fairly full. I would have liked another twenty minutes at the giant pandas, but I would not drop any of the main stops. I would still leave extra time for the giant pandas.

Looking back, I would book this again for the pacing, not because every stop was spectacular. The ordinary transitions made Chengdu feel like a place rather than a set of postcards. I would rather keep the pause at the giant pandas than add another stop.

Honestly, a full 3 hours, in the good sense. Wear comfortable shoes and leave the evening loose. My only advice is not to shorten the time at the giant pandas.
