A small thing I appreciated: the guide let Dunhuang speak for itself sometimes. Not every quiet moment needed another speech.
The unglamorous part: pickup, tickets and the order of stops were handled without fuss. That sounds ordinary, but it is exactly what you want on a full sightseeing day. For 1 hour and 30 minutes around Dunhuang & Silk Road, the pace felt about right.
One thing I learned: traffic added time to the day, so comfortable shoes and a little patience helped. The visit itself did not feel shortened. The time around Dunhuang was not the part I would cut.
I liked this more a day later, when I looked back through my photos and realised how different Dunhuang & Silk Road and Dunhuang had felt.
