Looking back, a small thing I appreciated: the guide let Huangshan speak for itself sometimes. Not every quiet moment needed another speech.
The unglamorous part: the practical side was solid: an easy pickup, sensible timing between stops, and no long sales detour disguised as sightseeing. For 8 hours around Xi'an and Huangshan, the pace felt about right.
One thing I learned: traffic added time to the day, so comfortable shoes and a little patience helped. The visit itself did not feel shortened. For this itinerary, the number of stops was enough.
Not every minute was engineered into a “moment.” There was time for coffee, questions and simply watching Xi'an and Huangshan go by.
In short, I would change my shoes, not the itinerary. The time around Hongcun was not the part I would cut.
