My camera roll says Guilin Highlights was the big moment. My actual favourite was Guilin; it felt less obvious and more personal.
What helped was simple: our questions wandered well beyond the standard facts, and the guide stayed with them. That made the time at Guilin much more interesting. With 7 hours to work with, the balance felt sensible.
Looking back, I carried more than I needed. Water, a light layer and a small power bank would have covered the whole day. My only advice is not to shorten the time at Guilin Highlights.
Looking back, this felt like travelling with someone who knew the area, not following a person holding a flag. That difference showed most at Guilin. The time around Guilin Highlights was not the part I would cut.
A full 7 hours, in the good sense. Wear comfortable shoes and leave the evening loose.
