One detail from the day: this was less about eating a huge meal than paying attention to several small ones. That rhythm worked for 4 hours.
Translation mattered as much as the cooking in Nanchang. We could ask the host ordinary questions instead of relying on a rehearsed demonstration.
A practical note: one Nanchang dish was outside my comfort zone, which was half the reason I booked. Asking how locals eat it made the stop much more interesting.
In hindsight, we booked because arranging Nanchang ourselves looked fiddly. We came away remembering the conversations as much as the places.
I booked mainly for the river cruise. I was glad I did because of Nanchang.
