You take a gentle walk along the historic Baijiling Ancient Path, a centuries-old stone trail that winds softly upward through maple and peach trees – an easy, mostly level route with frequent viewpoints rather than a strenuous climb. Pass the old stone archway, pause at the Baiji Pavilion where the whole of Dongqian Lake opens up below you, and let your guide explain the history worn into each stone.
On the way down you follow a lakeside lane past the lifelike stone carvings of the Southern Song Stone Park – guardian tigers, horses and zodiac figures that have watched over this valley for centuries. The path emerges right beside the lake, where you continue along the shore through the peaceful "Qianhu Secret Land" scenery.
