Über diese Tour
Discover the heritage and flavors of Changzhou on this easy, private full-day tour from Shanghai. Your English-speaking guide and private car pick you up at your hotel for a comfortable drive into one of Jiangnan's most underrated cities.
Your first stop is Tianning Temple, a magnificent Buddhist complex founded in the Tang dynasty over 1,300 years ago. Known as the 'First Forest of the Southeast', it sits beside the Grand Canal and is crowned by the towering Tianning Pagoda, a city landmark visited three times by Emperor Qianlong. Your guide shares its long history as you wander the tranquil grounds.
Next, stroll along Qingguo Lane, an elegant historic and cultural district lined with former residences of famous scholars, antique architecture and inviting shops. It is a wonderful place to soak up Changzhou's culture and sample local snacks at your own pace.
In the afternoon, travel to Jiaoxi Ancient Town, tucked where Changzhou, Wuxi and Jiangyin meet. With more than 1,200 years of preserved Jiangnan charm, it is recognized as a National Historic and Cultural Village. Far from over-commercialized, its mossy stone lanes, antique buildings and gentle pace offer an authentic glimpse of old water-town life.
Enjoy a relaxed lunch featuring the town's celebrated Jiaoxi mutton and a warming bowl of mutton soup, a true local specialty. The whole day is leisurely with light, flat walking and no hiking. Fully private and pet friendly, it is perfect for travelers who want genuine culture and cuisine without any rush. After a full day, your driver returns you comfortably to Shanghai.
