Half-Day Gulangyu Island Walking Tour from Xiamen

No cars, no scooters, no taxis — just one square kilometer of colonial-era villas on a sub-tropical island. Gulangyu sits 700 meters off the Xiamen waterfront, and from 1903 to 1945 it was an international settlement carved up between thirteen foreign powers. What they left behind is the best-preserved cluster of late-Qing colonial architecture in China — banks, consulates, mansions, churches, all wrapped in banyan trees and bougainvillea. UNESCO inscribed the island in 2017 as a "historic international settlement."

• 10:00 — Visit the Catholic Church and the cluster of former consulates along Lujiao Road
• 11:00 — Climb to Sunlight Rock viewpoint for the panorama of Xiamen across the strait
