There was enough explanation to follow the recipe, but not so much that the cooking lost its rhythm. The food stops in Xi'an felt hands-on from the start.
What helped was simple: the Xi'an stops were organised, but the food did not arrive like a rehearsed tasting menu. Each place kept its own character. The time around the food stops was not the part I would cut.
Small tip: do not eat a large breakfast before the Xi'an tour. The portions at individual stops look modest, then suddenly you realise you have been tasting things for hours. For this itinerary, the number of stops was enough.
Looking back, I tend to switch off when tours become a stream of dates. Here, the stories around Xi'an gave me enough to hold on to without overloading the day. For 4 hours around Xi'an, the pace felt about right.
A full 4 hours, in the good sense. Wear comfortable shoes and leave the evening loose.
