The new Yunnan high-speed rail line collapses what used to be a week-long road trip into a weekend. Kunming to Dali in 2 hours, Dali to Lijiang in 90 minutes — the train tunnels straight through the Cangshan mountains and pops you out at the foot of Yulong Snow Mountain. • Day 1 — Kunming to Dali:
• 07:30 — Pickup from your Kunming hotel
• 08:30 — Drop at Kunming South HSR station; board G-train to Dali
• 11:00 — Arrive Dali HSR station; met by your local guide
• 11:30 — Drive to the main Erhai Lake viewpoint; lake panorama and photos
• 13:00 — Lunch at a Bai-family restaurant near the lake (clay-pot fish, sour-spicy vegetables)
• 14:30 — Walk through Dali Old Town: south gate, the main lane, Foreigner Street, a small Bai courtyard tea house
• 17:00 — Check into your Dali Old Town hotel
• 18:30 — Dinner at a Bai courtyard restaurant
• Overnight: hotel in Dali Old Town
• Day 2 — Dali to Lijiang and onward:
• 07:30 — Breakfast and check out
• 08:30 — Transfer to Dali HSR station; board G-train to Lijiang

• 10:30 — Walking tour of Lijiang Old Town (UNESCO-listed): Mu Family Mansion, the main canal lanes, Sifang Square, the Old Town water network
