For us, what stayed with me wasn't the booking or the car. It was the time at the Temple of Heaven, when we could slow down and actually look around.
Practically speaking, the route through Beijing could be awkward to arrange independently. Having one person keep the timing straight made the whole thing calmer. My only advice is not to shorten the time at the Temple of Heaven.
The pace suited us, but this is not a lazy half day. Leave some space before whatever you plan next. For 2 hours around Beijing, the pace felt about right.
Honestly, I would book this again for the pacing, not because every stop was spectacular. The ordinary transitions made Beijing feel like a place rather than a set of postcards.
