I went in most excited about Datong Classic Day. Funny enough, Datong is the part I kept talking about afterward.
What helped was simple: our questions wandered well beyond the standard facts, and the guide stayed with them. That made the time at Datong much more interesting.
Looking back, I carried more than I needed. Water, a light layer and a small power bank would have covered the whole day. For 8 hours around Datong, the pace felt about right.
Looking back, this felt like travelling with someone who knew the area, not following a person holding a flag. That difference showed most at Datong. For this itinerary, the number of stops was enough.
