Looking back, the stop I expected to like least turned into the one we discussed afterward. That is the advantage of tasting with someone who can explain what is in front of you. My only advice is not to shorten the time at the cycling section.
The unglamorous part: the useful part in Shanghai was having someone explain how to order the same dishes later. I left with names in my phone, not just photos. With 4 hours to work with, the balance felt sensible.
Before you go, come hungry in Shanghai and say clearly what you cannot eat. There was enough variety that skipping one item did not make the experience feel smaller. The time around the Bund was not the part I would cut.
Not every minute was engineered into a “moment.” There was time for coffee, questions and simply watching Shanghai go by. For 4 hours around Shanghai, the pace felt about right.
