For us, there are plenty of polished photos online; the useful surprise was having time at the Li River without being moved along every five minutes.
Practically speaking, I liked that the day had structure without feeling scripted. Questions were answered properly, and there was also time to look around in silence. For 8 hours around Xi'an and Guilin, the pace felt about right.
Bring water and do not over-plan the evening afterward. 8 hours covered more ground than I expected. My only advice is not to shorten the time at the Li River.
Honestly, this felt like travelling with someone who knew the area, not following a person holding a flag. That difference showed most at the Li River.
