The part around the Forbidden City was unhurried, which mattered more to me than squeezing in one more stop. Tiananmen Square was a good counterpoint.
What helped was simple: there was no theatrical “VIP” treatment, just useful organisation and a guide who noticed when we needed a pause. That suited us. For 4 hours around Beijing, the pace felt about right.
Looking back, I carried more than I needed. Water, a light layer and a small power bank would have covered the whole day. I would keep the Beijing outline as it was.
Looking back, I tend to switch off when tours become a stream of dates. Here, the stories around Tiananmen Square gave me enough to hold on to without overloading the day.
Honestly, a full 4 hours, in the good sense. Wear comfortable shoes and leave the evening loose.
