This was less about eating a huge meal than paying attention to several small ones. That rhythm worked for 4 hours.
What helped was simple: the Shanghai stops were organised, but the food did not arrive like a rehearsed tasting menu. Each place kept its own character. For this itinerary, the number of stops was enough.
Small tip: do not eat a large breakfast before the Shanghai tour. The portions at individual stops look modest, then suddenly you realise you have been tasting things for hours. With 4 hours to work with, the balance felt sensible.
Looking back, I tend to switch off when tours become a stream of dates. Here, the stories around the river cruise gave me enough to hold on to without overloading the day.
In short, worth doing for the hotpot meal; worth remembering for the small stops in between.
