Overview

Immerse yourself in Jingdezhen, China's thousand-year Porcelain Capital, on a relaxed three-day private tour of ancient kilns, artist villages and hands-on ceramic experiences.

About This Tour

For more than a thousand years Jingdezhen has been the porcelain capital of China and a name known to ceramic lovers worldwide, the source of the blue-and-white wares once shipped from here to royal courts across the globe. This three-day private tour explores the city's living ceramic culture with your own English-speaking guide and private vehicle, balancing must-see heritage sites with the creative, contemporary side that draws artists from everywhere. You will wander the restored mid-century factories of the Taoxichuan creative district, watch the entire traditional porcelain-making process come alive at the Ancient Kiln Folk Museum, and explore the Sanbao artist village, a green valley dotted with studios, galleries and cafes where working potters welcome visitors. Throughout, your guide can arrange a hands-on session at the wheel so you can shape your own piece. Evenings offer the city's renowned street food and the spectacular China outdoor ceramic stage show. Ideal for culture and craft enthusiasts, families and design lovers, this is a soft-paced cultural tour rather than a hiking trip, and it is enjoyable year-round. As a private tour, the itinerary, dwell time and experiences are arranged entirely around your group. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: year-round; spring and autumn are most comfortable • Fitness level: easy; light walking through districts and villages • Hands-on pottery sessions can be arranged on request; firing of your finished piece may take extra time or shipping • The China ceramic stage show is an optional evening add-on • Carry your passport for site entry and hotel check-in

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival | Taoxichuan Creative District

Your guide meets you in Jingdezhen and transfers you to your guesthouse to settle in. In the evening explore Taoxichuan, China's first ceramic-culture creative district, where 1950s factory halls and 1980s machinery have been reborn as galleries, studios, design shops and night markets that trace the evolution of modern porcelain making. Browse the work of young ceramic artists, watch craftspeople at their stalls and soak up the buzzing creative atmosphere. Afterwards your guide leads you into the local food scene around Fuzhou Lane and Jiuji Town, where Jingdezhen's celebrated street snacks await. As a private tour the evening's pace is entirely yours. Meals: D. Overnight: Jingdezhen.

Day 2: Sanbao Village & Ancient Kiln Museum

Spend the morning in the Sanbao artist village, a serene valley often called Jingdezhen's hidden paradise, where art museums, beautifully designed buildings, studios and cafes sit amid the hills and working potters open their doors to visitors. Here your guide can arrange a hands-on session at the wheel to shape your own ceramic piece. In the afternoon visit the Ancient Kiln Folk Museum, a vast open-air site where the complete traditional porcelain process is demonstrated, from throwing and glazing to firing in restored wood kilns, by master craftsmen. The depth and pace are arranged around your interests. Meals: D. Overnight: Jingdezhen.

Day 3: Seven-Colour Porcelain House & Yaoli Ancient Town

This morning visit the Seven-Colour Porcelain House, an astonishing building entirely clad in mosaics of broken porcelain, much of it fine 1980s wood-kiln ware, assembled over decades by an elderly artisan into a one-of-a-kind work of folk art. In the afternoon, choose between an early departure or an excursion to Yaoli Ancient Town, historically named the cradle of Jingdezhen porcelain, where old streets, water mills and the remains of early kilns sit in a lush mountain setting. Your guide then transfers you for onward travel. Meals: B. End of tour.
