Overview

Trek across Mount Jiuhua, one of China's Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains, on a 3-day private tour blending granite peaks, sea-of-cloud vistas and centuries-old temples.

About This Tour

Mount Jiuhua (Jiuhuashan) in Anhui is one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China, revered as the bodhimanda of Ksitigarbha (Dizang) Bodhisattva and dotted with more than ninety temples and monasteries. This private 3-day tour takes you beyond the crowded cable-car routes to trek the mountain on foot, the same trails once climbed by Tang dynasty poets Li Bai and Liu Yuxi. You ascend to the Great Flower Terrace at 1,297 m where granite spires rise from drifting mist like a Chinese ink painting, walk the airy ridgeline to the Heavenly Terrace summit, and light incense at the spiritual heart of the mountain amid the haze of devotion. The final day winds down through the front mountain past temples, pilgrims and the lively Jiuhua Old Street, with a visit to the Grand Aspiration Culture Park. As a private tour you travel with an English-speaking guide and private vehicle at your own pace, staying in comfortable accommodation along the way. Ideal for travelers seeking an authentic blend of nature, hiking and living Buddhist culture rather than a packaged sightseeing stop. Best from April to November. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: April to November (avoid winter ice on the ridge) • Fitness level: moderate; Day 2 covers about 11 km with around 1,100 m cumulative ascent over roughly 8 hours on trail steps and dirt paths • Highest point about 1,300 m; a cable car descent is available if needed • Carry your own daypack on the mountain; bring a towel and toiletries as mountain guesthouses are basic • An entrance ticket checkpoint is on the trail between the Great Flower Terrace and Heavenly Terrace; the ticket is paid on site • In rain or snow, less experienced hikers or children should use the main gate and cable car
