Overview

A private 3-day photography escape to Fujian's Pingtan Island, chasing the glowing 'Blue Tears' bioluminescent sea, dramatic windmill coastlines and centuries-old stone villages.

About This Tour

Pingtan Island (Haitan), Fujian's largest island and one of China's designated international tourism islands, is a photographer's dream of sea, wind and stone. On this private tour you chase four signature wonders: the surreal 'Blue Tears' bioluminescent glow that lights up the surf on warm spring and early-summer nights, the wind-turbine coastline along the Northern Eco-Corridor, the wave-carved sea-erosion landforms, and the iconic stone-house (shicuo) fishing villages that cling to the cliffs. Your private vehicle and English-speaking guide give you the flexibility photographers need: slow mornings at golden hour, scouting multiple Blue Tears hotspots after dark (Changjiang'ao, Beigang Village, Liushui Pier, Longwangtou Beach), and unhurried sessions among the colourful stone hamlets. This trip suits keen photographers, couples and small groups who want striking coastal imagery and a relaxed island pace rather than packed sightseeing. Best enjoyed late spring through summer, when Blue Tears appear most frequently. Note that Blue Tears is a wild natural phenomenon and sightings depend on weather, tide and luck. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: late April to August for Blue Tears (most frequent on warm, calm nights) • Fitness level: easy; light walking along coast and villages • Blue Tears is a wild natural phenomenon; sightings are not guaranteed and depend on weather and tide • Bring a tripod and a camera capable of long exposures for night and slow-shutter shots • Nearest rail hub is Fuzhou South Station; private transfer to the island arranged

Day 1: Fuzhou to Pingtan | Windmill Coast & Blue Tears Hunt

Meet your guide at Fuzhou South Station and transfer by private vehicle to Pingtan Island (about 1.5 hours). After settling in, head to the Northern Eco-Corridor at the island's far north for sunset, where a coastal glass walkway threads along the shore and rows of offshore wind turbines stand against the sea. Multiple viewpoints look out over the Changjiang'ao turbine field and a 360-degree panorama of Pingtan's northern coast, ideal for wide-angle and long-exposure photography. After dinner, the highlight of the trip: a flexible night-time hunt for the bioluminescent 'Blue Tears' along the most reliable hotspots, from Changjiang'ao and Beigang Village to Liushui Pier and Longwangtou Beach, your guide adjusting locations based on tide and conditions. Meals: none included. Overnight on Pingtan Island.

Day 2: Pingtan | Stone Villages & Sea-Erosion Coast

A full day exploring Pingtan's most photogenic corners at an unhurried pace. Begin at the colourful stone-house (shicuo) villages such as Beigang, where granite cottages painted in earthy reds and blues tumble down the hillside toward the sea, perfect for golden-hour portraits and street-style frames. Continue along the wave-sculpted sea-erosion coastline, with dramatic rock stacks, arches and tide pools that change character with the light. Your guide times stops for the best conditions and can include quieter local fishing spots away from the crowds. After sunset, depending on weather and tide, head out for a second chance at the Blue Tears, increasing your odds of capturing the glow. Meals: breakfast included; lunch and dinner at your own pace (local seafood recommended). Overnight on Pingtan Island.

Day 3: Pingtan to Fuzhou | Morning Shoot & Departure

Enjoy a final early shoot at a coastal viewpoint or stone village under soft morning light, capturing the island without the daytime crowds. Depending on your departure time, your guide may include a last stop at a scenic stretch of the eco-corridor or a harbour to round out your portfolio. After breakfast and check-out, transfer by private vehicle back to Fuzhou South Station for your onward high-speed rail or flight connection. The pace is relaxed, leaving room to adjust the morning around the best light. Meals: breakfast included. Trip ends in Fuzhou.
