Overview
A 3-day private Guizhou tour blending Guiyang food culture, a guided cave-exploration adventure at Shilong Cave, and the lantern-lit 'Guizhou Wuzhen' water village of Wujiangzhai.
About This Tour
This private tour reveals a hidden, hands-on side of Guizhou, mixing food, adventure and atmospheric old-town charm. It opens in mountain-ringed Guiyang with a guided city walk built around the city's famous sour, spicy and fermented flavours, followed by an evening of Dong ethnic grand song, sour-soup hotpot and a blind tasting of Guizhou rice wines. The adventure highlight is Shilong Cave, where certified outdoor leaders lead a fully equipped cave exploration through a karst underworld of stalactites, stalagmites and an underground river, helmet and headlamp on. The trip closes at Wujiangzhai, often called the 'Guizhou Wuzhen', a riverside village of tiered stilt houses, bamboo-drifting performances and lanterns that glow like a dreamscape after dark, especially atmospheric in soft rain. Travelling with your own English-speaking guide and private vehicle, this tour suits active travellers and culture seekers who want something off the usual trail. Best from spring to autumn. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: spring to autumn; avoid heavy-rain days for caving • Fitness level: moderate; the cave exploration involves wet, uneven terrain and some scrambling • Cave activity provides helmet, headlamp, wetsuit and life vest; changing and shower facilities on-site • Minimum age 12 recommended for the cave section due to safety requirements • Default rooms are twins; solo travellers may incur a single-room supplement
Itinerary
1
Day 1: Arrival in Guiyang | City Walk & Rice-Wine Tasting
Meet your guide in Guiyang, a city where mountains and greenery wrap around the streets, and check into your hotel. In the afternoon, set out on a guided city walk that uses Guiyang's distinctive sour, spicy and fermented snacks as a thread to explore local life and flavours. As evening falls, enjoy Dong ethnic grand song and a sour-soup hotpot dinner, then a fun blind tasting of eight Guizhou rice wines, brewed from local grains and infused with the region's seasonal fruits and flowers, complete with a playful 'tasting certificate'. Meals: none included on arrival. Overnight in Guiyang.

Day 2: Shilong Cave Exploration to Wujiangzhai
After breakfast, drive about one hour to Shilong Cave. Led by certified outdoor guides and equipped with helmet, headlamp, wetsuit and life vest, descend into a karst 'underworld' of stalactites, stalagmites and an underground river, an immersive caving adventure with full public safety equipment and shower facilities. After lunch, drive about two hours to Wujiangzhai and check into accommodation inside the scenic village. Watch a single-bamboo-drifting performance on the river and wander among tiered stilt houses; once the lanterns light up, the village feels like a dream, an experience locals call the 'Guizhou version of Wuzhen', especially poetic on a misty, drizzly evening. Meals: breakfast. Overnight in Wujiangzhai.

Day 3: Wujiangzhai Leisure | Departure from Wujiangzhai
Enjoy a relaxed morning in Wujiangzhai, which preserves its original folk customs, simple traditions and quiet natural setting; stroll the riverside lanes and old bridges at your own pace. After a free lunch, your private vehicle transfers you to Wujiangzhai Station for departure, timed around your onward train. Drive times and departure timing depend on your schedule. Meals: breakfast.
