Looking back, by dinner we were still comparing notes about the Zhangjiajie peaks. That is usually how I judge whether a tour was worth doing.
The unglamorous part: the practical side was solid: an easy pickup, sensible timing between stops, and no long sales detour disguised as sightseeing. For 5 days around Zhangjiajie, the pace felt about right.
One thing I learned: the early starts caught up with me around the middle of the trip. I would keep the same route, but protect one evening for doing absolutely nothing. With 5 days to work with, the balance felt sensible.
Not every minute was engineered into a “moment.” There was time for coffee, questions and simply watching Zhangjiajie go by.
