One detail from the day: this was less about eating a huge meal than paying attention to several small ones. That rhythm worked for 9 hours. With 9 hours to work with, the balance felt sensible.
Translation mattered as much as the cooking in Chongqing. We could ask the host ordinary questions instead of relying on a rehearsed demonstration.
A practical note: one Chongqing dish was outside my comfort zone, which was half the reason I booked. Asking how locals eat it made the stop much more interesting. For this itinerary, the number of stops was enough.
In hindsight, I liked this more a day later, when I looked back through my photos and realised how different Chongqing and the hotpot meal had felt.
I booked mainly for the hotpot meal. I was glad I did because of Chongqing.
