Looking back, there was a fair amount in 9 hours, but it never felt like a checklist. The stop at the Zhangjiajie peaks had room to breathe instead of becoming another quick photo.
The unglamorous part: the private format mattered most between the main stops. No waiting for a coach to refill and no counting thirty people before moving on. The time around the Zhangjiajie peaks was not the part I would cut.
One thing I learned: lunch landed later than I expected, so a small snack was useful. I was happier not cutting the time at the Zhangjiajie peaks. I would rather keep the pause at the Zhangjiajie peaks than add another stop.
I liked this more a day later, when I looked back through my photos and realised how different Zhangjiajie and the Zhangjiajie peaks had felt.
