For us, what I remember is the change from one stop to the next: different room, different smell, different crowd. The hotpot meal was only one part of it. I would still leave extra time for the hotpot meal.
Practically speaking, the Chengdu meeting point was simple to find, and the food stops came at a sensible pace. There was time to ask what we were eating rather than just moving to the next plate.
The useful part in Chengdu was not just trying food, but knowing what to order again later. I saved two dish names in my phone before the tour ended. For 7 hours around Chengdu, the pace felt about right.
Honestly, I had a long list of things I thought I needed to see. After the food stops, I was happier slowing down and noticing fewer things properly.
