For us, there are plenty of polished photos online; the useful surprise was having time at the trail without being moved along every five minutes. The time around the trail was not the part I would cut.
Practically speaking, there was no pressure to turn every pause into a photo stop. We could catch our breath, look around and move when ready. I would keep the Shanghai outline as it was.
Expect uneven ground and a few sections where conversation stops because everyone is concentrating on their feet. The views near the trail repay the effort. For this itinerary, the number of stops was enough.
Honestly, this felt like travelling with someone who knew the area, not following a person holding a flag. That difference showed most at Shanghai. For 10 hours around Shanghai, the pace felt about right.
In short, I came with questions, left with more questions, and mean that as a compliment. My only advice is not to shorten the time at the trail.
