The stop I expected to like least turned into the one we discussed afterward. That is the advantage of tasting with someone who can explain what is in front of you. For this itinerary, the number of stops was enough.
What helped was simple: the Suzhou meeting point was simple to find, and the food stops came at a sensible pace. There was time to ask what we were eating rather than just moving to the next plate.
Small tip: do not eat a large breakfast before the Suzhou tour. The portions at individual stops look modest, then suddenly you realise you have been tasting things for hours.
Looking back, this wasn't a “see everything” tour, and that was a strength. The time around Suzhou felt specific to Suzhou, not interchangeable with another city.
A full 13 hours, in the good sense. Wear comfortable shoes and leave the evening loose. With 13 hours to work with, the balance felt sensible.
