My camera roll says Gardens and Tongli or Zhouzhuang Water Town was the big moment. My actual favourite was Suzhou; it felt less obvious and more personal.
What helped was simple: our guide read the pace well. We got the background when it helped, then space to explore instead of a running lecture. For 8 hours around Suzhou, the pace felt about right.
Looking back, I carried more than I needed. Water, a light layer and a small power bank would have covered the whole day. I would still leave extra time for Gardens and Tongli or Zhouzhuang Water Town.
Looking back, I would book this again for the pacing, not because every stop was spectacular. The ordinary transitions made Suzhou feel like a place rather than a set of postcards. I would rather keep the pause at Gardens and Tongli or Zhouzhuang Water Town than add another stop.
In short, worth doing for Gardens and Tongli or Zhouzhuang Water Town; worth remembering for the small stops in between.
