The part around Huangshan was unhurried, which mattered more to me than squeezing in one more stop. The photography stops was a good counterpoint.
What helped was simple: our questions wandered well beyond the standard facts, and the guide stayed with them. That made the time at the photography stops much more interesting.
Looking back, the timing matters more than the camera. We had a useful window at Huangshan, and I never felt rushed after taking the obvious first shot.
