2-Day Wuyishan Tea Mountain and Rock-Tea Tour

As a tea obsessive, Wuyishan was a pilgrimage. Seeing the actual cliffside bushes that are the origin of Da Hong Pao rock tea, then visiting a working tea factory to watch the roasting, was the highlight of my entire China trip. Our English-speaking guide knew the chemistry and the legends in equal measure.

The Nine-Bend Stream bamboo raft ride was so peaceful, drifting past those red sandstone cliffs of the UNESCO park with a boatman pointing out rock formations. Two days was just right to combine the scenery with the rock-tea culture. We tasted maybe ten different oolongs and I shipped a box home.

Wuyishan being a dual UNESCO site (nature and culture) makes so much sense once you are there. The cliffs are dramatic and the tea heritage is woven into everything. The factory visit where they explained the rock-tea roasting process was fascinating. Private and unhurried, exactly what I wanted.

A lovely two-day escape focused on tea and gentle nature. The bamboo raft on the Nine-Bend was the postcard moment. Tea tasting was generous, maybe too generous, I was wired afterwards. Good value for a private guide. The hiking around the rock peaks is optional and worth it for the views.
