2-Day Xiapu Mudflat Sunrise and Sunset Photography Tour

Xiapu is a landscape photographer's holy grail and these two days delivered shot after shot. The tidal mudflats at sunrise, with the lone fisherman poling his raft through the golden water and the bamboo poles casting long reflections, are images I will treasure. Our guide knew exactly which viewpoint to hit for each tide and light.

Booked this for the famous mudflat photography and the timing was everything, our English-speaking guide had checked the tide tables so we were always in position for sunrise and sunset. The bamboo-pole fishing scenes and the seaweed farms made for incredible compositions. The fishing village visit added human stories to the landscapes.

I came in the spring window and Xiapu's mudflats did not disappoint. Two days of chasing light, the dawn raft scenes and the sunset over the tidal flats. The guide positioned us perfectly each time, even arranging a fisherman to be out on the flats for the classic shot. A niche trip done by people who clearly understand photographers.

A specialised two-day photography trip and you really need to come in peak season for the best mudflat scenes. We had early starts for sunrise and stayed out for sunset, so it is tiring but rewarding. The bamboo fishing-pole reflections are the iconic Xiapu image.
