The bamboo raft drift down the Nine Bends River was the highlight, a lazy float past the karst cliffs of Wuyi with the raftsman pointing out rock formations. Hiking Tianyou Peak the next morning gave us the bird's-eye view of those same bends. A perfect two-day pairing.
As tea lovers, the visit to the Wuyi tea villages was a dream, tasting rock oolong right where it's grown on those cliffs. The guide explained the whole UNESCO heritage of the mountain. Hotel and private guide included made it stress-free.
Beautiful UNESCO scenery. The Nine Bends raft and Tianyou Peak hike are both excellent. The peak climb has a lot of steps so wear good shoes. Loved that the tea tasting was built in. Two days is tight but the private guide kept it efficient.
Mount Wuyi surprised us, far fewer tourists than other famous Chinese mountains. The river raft was serene and the rock tea is genuinely special. Our guide arranged a tea farmer visit that wasn't on the itinerary. Everything from hotel to transport handled.
