Über diese Tour
Xishuangbanna doesn't feel like China. Down in the deep south of Yunnan, on the Mekong, the climate is tropical — bananas and rubber trees instead of pine forests, golden Theravada Buddhist stupas instead of Han temples, Dai-minority villages whose language is closer to Thai and Lao than to Mandarin. It rains, it steams, the air smells like jungle. Year-round 22–32 °C. Most foreign travelers fly straight over it on the way to Vietnam without realizing what they're missing.
This 3-day private tour out of Jinghong (the regional capital, with a direct flight from Kunming) takes you through the highlights: a real tropical rainforest reserve with elephants and gibbons, a still-living Dai water village with golden pagodas, the Sunday border market where Lao and Burmese traders sell ginger and silver, and dinner with a Dai family in their stilt-house.
