Honestly, I had seen plenty of photos of Lhasa and Yamdrok Holy Lake. Being there was quieter and more absorbing than I expected, and I stopped checking my phone for a while.
This worked for us because we didn't have to solve transport between Lhasa and Lhasa and Yamdrok Holy Lake. We could pay attention to the places, not the logistics.
A practical note: there is a lot of moving between places. Packing light made a bigger difference than any sightseeing tip I read beforehand. My only advice is not to shorten the time at Lhasa and Yamdrok Holy Lake.
In hindsight, we booked because arranging Lhasa ourselves looked fiddly. We came away remembering the conversations as much as the places.
