Sobre este tour
Walk behind the largest waterfall in Asia. Huangguoshu plunges 77 metres over a 101-metre-wide cliff, and the roar is loud enough that you'll feel it in your chest before you see it. The Chinese poet-traveler Xu Xiake came here in 1638 and called it the most spectacular cataract he had ever seen. Four centuries later, the verdict still holds — though you should know up front that this is Guizhou's most famous attraction and on weekends and Chinese holidays it gets seriously crowded. We schedule a weekday early arrival to beat the worst of the tour buses.
This private day tour takes you out of Guiyang (about 90 minutes by expressway) and through the three connected parks of the Huangguoshu scenic area: the Big Waterfall itself, the upstream Doupotang cascade, and the Tianxingqiao karst forest of bridges and stone gardens. Your English-speaking guide unpacks the geology of Guizhou's karst plateau — why a single province ended up with so many waterfalls — and the local Buyi minority culture along the river.
Day 1 itinerary:
- 07:00 — Early pickup from your Guiyang hotel (early start beats the crowds)
- 08:30 — Arrive Huangguoshu scenic area; first stop the Big Waterfall
- 09:00 — Walk the descending path to the viewing platforms, then into the Water-Curtain Cave, a natural tunnel behind the falling water — expect to get sprayed
- 11:30 — Local Buyi-style lunch in a village restaurant outside the park (sour-soup fish, glutinous rice cakes)
- 13:00 — Doupotang Waterfall, the wider upstream cascade often photographed as a curtain of white
- 14:30 — Tianxingqiao karst forest: stone bridges, mini-canyons and a maze of limestone formations along the river
- 17:00 — Depart Huangguoshu
- 19:00 — Drop-off at your Guiyang hotel
