I went in most excited about the giant pandas. Funny enough, Chengdu is the part I kept talking about afterward.
What helped was simple: there was no theatrical “VIP” treatment, just useful organisation and a guide who noticed when we needed a pause. That suited us. I would rather keep the pause at the giant pandas than add another stop.
Looking back, I carried more than I needed. Water, a light layer and a small power bank would have covered the whole day. The time around the giant pandas was not the part I would cut.
Looking back, this felt like travelling with someone who knew the area, not following a person holding a flag. That difference showed most at Chengdu.
In short, worth doing for the giant pandas; worth remembering for the small stops in between.
