Overview
See Meili (Kawagebo) sunrise from Feilai Temple, drive the Mekong gorge, walk the Yubeng valley viewpoints. 3-day non-trekking tour from Shangri-La with English guide.
About This Tour
Kawagebo, the 6,740 m main peak of the Meili range, is one of the holiest mountains in Tibetan Buddhism — and famously unclimbed. Every attempt has either failed or ended in tragedy, and out of respect for local belief there is now a quiet climbing ban. What you can do, and what this trip is built around, is see it well. At dawn from the Feilai Temple ridge across the gorge, when the rising sun lights the east face one peak at a time, locals call it "gold-sprinkling." It is unforgettable.
This 3-day private tour is the non-trekking, view-focused version of a Meili trip — perfect for travelers who want the sunrise, the gorge drive, the Tibetan villages and the Yubeng-region viewpoints, but who don't want to commit to the multi-day Yubeng hike-in. You drive the spectacular Lancang (Mekong) gorge road, stay two nights in Feilai Temple village at 3,400 m, walk to nearby viewpoints, and meet a Tibetan family for butter tea.

Traveler Reviews
The local insights in China made the difference; places we would never have found on our own.
One of the best days of our trip. China is a must, and the private format is so much better.
