Overview
Trek up to a remote high-mountain village in Xianju, camp under a blaze of stars, and climb at dawn for a sea-of-clouds sunrise over what locals call East China's Shangri-La.
About This Tour
Hidden among the peaks of Xianju in Zhejiang, Gongyu is a high-mountain village often called 'East China's Shangri-La', a bowl of terraced fields ringed by sharp summits at around 600 m, with peaks rising near 1,000 m all around. Development is already beginning, so this is a rare chance to see the original, unspoiled landscape before it changes. This private 2-day camping trek is designed for travelers who want raw mountain scenery, village life and a genuine wilderness night. With your English-speaking guide and private vehicle you drive from Ningbo, then hike up through wildflower-lined trails to Gongyu village, home to only about thirty families and famously warm hosts. Spend the evening around a campfire under brilliant stars, sleeping in a tent or simple farmhouse room. Before dawn you climb to Gongyu Bei viewpoint to watch the sun rise over a drifting sea of clouds, the terraced village laid out beneath your feet. The descent runs through primeval bamboo forest to Linkeng. Best in late spring through autumn. As a private tour, the pace is arranged for your group alone. Note: facilities are basic and there are no showers on the mountain. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: late spring to autumn • Fitness level: moderate; Day 1 approx. 5 km / 3 hrs with 500 m ascent, Day 2 approx. 9 km / 5 hrs with long descent • No showers on the mountain; lodging is basic multi-bed rooms or tents • Bring a headlamp for the pre-dawn sunrise climb to Gongyu Bei • Sunrise hike depends on weather and is cancelled in rain • Round-trip drive about 4 hours each way
