Overview
An easy-paced Inner Mongolia adventure across alpine forest, the vast Gonggeer grassland and the Hunshandake sand dunes, with light hikes, off-road jeeps and a herders' home visit.
About This Tour
This relaxed private tour explores Keshiketeng (Hexigten) Banner, a UNESCO Global Geopark in Inner Mongolia's Chifeng region nicknamed 'the epitome of Inner Mongolia' for packing grassland, forest, sand land, lakes, hot springs, stone forests and glacial relics into one banner. Over three days you sample its signature landscapes at a gentle pace: a 10km light hike through the birch forests and meadows of Daqingshan to ridgelines scattered with grazing herds; an off-road jeep crossing into Huanggangliang National Forest Park on the roof of the Greater Khingan range; and a drive into the wide-open Gonggeer grassland to visit a Mongolian herding family for milk tea, lamb-cuddling photos and grassland riding. The finale is a thrilling jeep traverse of the Hunshandake sand land, where dunes meet lakes near Dali Lake, capped with sand-sledding, archery and Mongolian-costume photos at a private camp. Authentic nomadic culture, big-sky scenery and outdoor coppered-pot hotpot meals make this ideal for nature lovers and families wanting an active but not strenuous trip. Best from June to September. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: June-September for green grasslands and mild weather • Fitness level: easy; light hikes of 3-10km per day at moderate elevation (1,400-1,900m) • Large day-night temperature swings in Jingpeng; bring a windproof jacket or light down layer • Off-road jeep routes adjust daily with weather and grassland conditions; limited toilet facilities outdoors • Plan return flights/trains from Chifeng after 19:00 on Day 3 (arrival around 17:00)
