Overview
Trek the UNESCO World Heritage 'most beautiful mountain under heaven', from cloud-wrapped peaks and historic Guling Town to the thundering Three-Tiered Falls.
About This Tour
Mount Lushan is one of China's ten great mountains and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated for centuries as 'the most beautiful mountain under heaven'. This private 3-day hiking tour swaps the tour-bus crowds for the trails, letting you climb Lushan on foot the way poets and pilgrims once did. Your English-speaking guide and private vehicle meet you near Jiujiang, then lead you up classic ridge routes to Guling Town, a hilltop village famous for its 19th-century European villas, the Lushan Conference site and the single-film Lushan Love cinema. You will walk both the cultural Central Line and the scenic West Line past Ruqin Lake, the Fairy Cave and Dragon-Head Cliff, then summit Hanpokou pass and Five Old Men Peaks before descending to the spectacular Three-Tiered Falls, where mountain water drops in three karst cascades. Expect misty peaks, lush botanical gardens, classic Chinese landscape views and the local 'three stones and one tea' cuisine. Best for travelers of moderate fitness who want a soft-adventure introduction to China's mountain culture, ideally in spring through autumn when the sea of clouds is at its finest. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: spring to autumn (April-October) for the famous sea of clouds; bring layers, peaks are cool and misty • Fitness level: moderate; Day 2 covers about 7km uphill (1000m gain) plus an 11km loop, Day 3 about 16km • Wear proper hiking shoes; trails are mostly stone steps, flagstone paths and mountain roads • Bring a headlamp in autumn/winter as days are short • Sunrise viewing on Day 3 is optional and weather-dependent

Today is the assembly day. Make your own way by high-speed rail or self-drive to Jiujiang, the riverside city at the foot of Mount Lushan. Your tour leader waits at Jiujiang Station from the evening and transfers you to the hotel beside the station. Early arrivals have free time to explore the city: visit the Jiujiang Museum, the lakeside Yanshui Pavilion and Pipa Pavilion, sample local street food, or admire the night view of the Yangtze River Bridge. Meals are on your own and tonight you rest in Jiujiang to be fresh for the climb ahead. Meals: none. Overnight: Jiujiang city hotel.

Day 2: Jiujiang to Guling | Central & West Lines
After breakfast drive about 30 minutes to the Lushan Scenic Area and begin the day's trek on foot. Climb roughly 7km uphill with about 1000m of elevation gain along a classic trekkers' route to reach Guling Town at the heart of the mountain, famous for its old villas, the iconic Meilu villa and the Lushan Conference site. Check in and have lunch, then walk the combined Central and West Line loop (about 11km, 500m gain): the cultural Central Line passes the conference hall and botanical garden, while the scenic West Line takes in Ruqin Lake, the Fairy Cave and Dragon-Head Cliff. Return to Guling for a free-time evening; try the local 'three stones and one tea' specialties, and optionally watch the daily showing of the 1980 film 'Lushan Love' in the historic 1897 chapel-turned-cinema. Meals: shared or independent. Overnight: Guling Town hotel.

Day 3: Hanpokou, Five Old Men Peaks & Three-Tiered Falls
Early risers can join the guide for an optional sunrise at Yangtianping (weather permitting). After breakfast start today's roughly 16km trek (about 600m gain). Reach Hanpokou pass for sweeping views toward Hanyang and Five Old Men Peaks, then climb the Five Old Men Peaks, named for five folded summits resembling pondering old men. Descend the stone steps to Lushan's first wonder, the Three-Tiered Falls, where the stream from Five Old Men Peaks drops in three dramatic karst cascades; locals say you have not truly visited Lushan until you reach it. Finish at the trail's end and transfer to the high-speed rail station for your onward journey, with drop-offs at both Jiujiang and Lushan stations. Meals: shared or independent. End of tour.
