Overview

A two-day private hike up Mount Tianzhu, one of Anhui's three great mountains and a filming location for the game Black Myth: Wukong, famed for its soaring granite pillar peaks.

About This Tour

This private two-day trip climbs Mount Tianzhu (Tianzhushan), a UNESCO Global Geopark and one of Anhui province's three most celebrated mountains, alongside the Yellow Mountains and Mount Jiuhua. The peak is named for its central spire, which rises like a single pillar 'propping up the sky,' and the range is renowned worldwide as the namesake of 'Tianzhushan-type' granite landforms, with collapsed boulder fields, balancing rocks and deep stone caves. Recently the mountain gained new fame as a real-world filming location for the hit game Black Myth: Wukong, drawing a wave of fans to its dramatic scenery. Hiking with an English-speaking guide and private vehicle, you pass whimsically named formations such as Elephant Trunk Rock, Flying-Down Peak and the eerie Mystery Valley, and explore the ancient pines and ridgelines that inspired classical Chinese poets including Li Bai and Su Shi. Ideal for active travellers, mountain lovers and gaming or culture fans wanting an iconic yet uncrowded Chinese peak. Best in spring and autumn. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: spring and autumn; summer is warm, winter can be icy at altitude • Fitness level: moderate; a full day of mountain stairs and trails with significant ascent • Wear sturdy shoes; bring rain gear and water • An optional cable car can shorten the climb • Tour may adjust if the scenic area restricts access due to weather

Day 1: Anqing | Summit Hike to Tianzhu Peak

Your English-speaking guide meets you at Anqing railway station (about 4 hours by high-speed train from Shanghai) and transfers you toward Mount Tianzhu, roughly 1.5 hours away. Around 10:30 you reach the trailhead and board the included scenic shuttle. From there you begin the main ascent toward Tianzhu Peak, hiking through one of China's most dramatic granite landscapes. Over the day you pass the lifelike Elephant Trunk Rock, the gravity-defying Flying-Down Peak, the towering Wan Gong stone statue, and the deep, mysterious Mystery Valley caves, as well as ancient pines including a 1,200-year-old Tianzhu pine. With its pillar-like peaks and sweeping ridge views, this is the section made famous by Black Myth: Wukong. In the afternoon you descend and transfer to your hotel. Meals: self-arranged/AA. Overnight: hotel near Tianzhushan.

Day 2: Tianzhushan Highlights | Departure

After breakfast you return to the mountain for a more relaxed second day exploring the scenic highlights at your own pace. Depending on the previous day's progress, your guide may take you to viewpoints over the sea of granite peaks, the Lianhua (Lotus) Peak area, the alpine lakes and the cliffside walkways that thread between the rock spires. The light is best for photography in the morning, with mist often drifting between the pillars. You take in the panoramas, visit any sections missed on Day 1 and enjoy the calm before the trip winds down. By early to mid afternoon you descend, board the scenic shuttle and transfer back to Anqing railway station for your onward high-speed train, ending the tour. Meals: self-arranged/AA. Transfer back to station included.
