Overview

Escape Chengdu into the snow-capped Four Sisters Mountains and the mirror lakes of Bipenggou on a scenic 2-day private alpine getaway through western Sichuan.

About This Tour

Just a few hours west of Chengdu, the high country of western Sichuan unfolds into one of China's most cinematic alpine landscapes - and this private 2-day tour captures its highlights at a comfortable pace. The route climbs past Dujiangyan, the Wenchuan earthquake memorial, the Shenshuping panda base, the Balang Mountain pass, and the famous Maobiliang viewpoint before reaching Mt. Siguniang (the 'Four Sisters Mountain'), often called China's answer to the Alps. You'll wander Shuangqiao Valley, threading through primeval forest, alpine meadows, crystal streams, and dramatic rock-and-waterfall scenery with snow peaks always on the horizon. Day two follows the newly opened Lixiao Road - dubbed the 'Sichuan version of the Duku Highway' - to Bipenggou, where you choose between an easy walk along the snow-view boardwalk or a 2.5 km stroll to the mirror-still Panyang Lake reflecting the surrounding peaks. With a private English-speaking guide and private vehicle, you skip the group-tour rush and travel on your own schedule. Autumn paints the slopes in fiery color while winter delivers pristine snowscapes; either way, mountain weather swings sharply, so pack warm layers. Suitable for active travelers and families who want big-mountain Sichuan without a long trek. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: late spring to autumn for color; winter for snow • Altitude: town sits around 3,200 m and the passes higher - take it easy • Fitness level: moderate; mostly easy walking with optional short hikes at altitude • Large day-night temperature swings; bring a warm down jacket and hat • Some entrance tickets must be reserved in advance - your guide assists

Day 1: Chengdu - Mt. Siguniang & Shuangqiao Valley

Depart Chengdu around 07:30 and drive about 200 km (roughly 5 hours) into the mountains, passing a string of western-Sichuan classics: Dujiangyan, the Wenchuan/Yingxiu earthquake site, the Shenshuping panda base, the Balang Mountain pass, and the Maobiliang viewpoint, with autumn-tinged ridges rising all around. Reach Siguniangshan Town near midday for lunch, then enter the Mt. Siguniang scenic area to explore Shuangqiao (Double Bridge) Valley from about 12:30 to 17:30. A network of boardwalks and shuttle stops leads you through primeval forest, alpine meadows, clear streams, and waterfalls with 360-degree views of the snow peaks - cool, fresh, and endlessly photogenic. Exit in good time and return to your hotel for a free evening. Drive: ~200 km, about 5 hours. Meals: at leisure / local restaurants. Overnight: standard twin hotel in Siguniangshan Town.

Day 2: Lixiao Road & Bipenggou - Chengdu

After breakfast, set out around 08:00 along the newly opened Lixiao Road, a high alpine scenic route nicknamed the 'Sichuan version of the Duku Highway,' dotted with little-known viewpoints. Pause around 10:20 at the Da'erpu camp for photos and a short break, then continue to Bipenggou, arriving about 11:30. Transfer to the park shuttle to the Shanghaizi visitor center, where you choose your own pace: ride the optional electric cart toward Panyang Lake, or walk the roughly 2.5 km snow-view boardwalk to the lake to enjoy mirror-perfect reflections of the surrounding peaks; the more energetic can add the Yanziyan viewpoint. Around 15:00 return to the visitor center and shuttle out, beginning the drive back to Chengdu around 16:30 (about 320 km / 5.5 hours). Arrive in Chengdu near 20:30 where the tour ends. Drive: ~320 km, about 5.5 hours. Meals: breakfast included; lunch en route at own expense. Overnight: not included (departure day).
