★★★★★ 4.7 (16)⏱ 2 days and 1 hour · Private🗣 English guide

Overview

A private 2-day trek across Wugongshan's legendary high-alpine meadows, chasing sunsets, star fields and a golden sea-of-clouds sunrise on the Golden Summit.

About This Tour

Wugong Mountain in Jiangxi is one of China's most celebrated trekking destinations, famed for tens of thousands of acres of rolling high-alpine grassland draped over ridgelines above 1,900 meters. Praised by the Ming-dynasty explorer Xu Xiake, this is a landscape of golden meadows, drifting cloud seas, and some of the clearest night skies in eastern China. On this private 2-day tour your English-speaking guide leads you from a quiet farming village up through pine-shaded streams onto the open ridge, where you overnight at a mountain guesthouse perfectly placed for sunset, stargazing and a dawn sea-of-clouds. Day two follows the spectacular 'Camel Ridge' to the Golden Summit before descending (cable car optional). Ideal for active travelers who want a genuine Chinese mountain-trekking experience without extreme altitude, and who love photography, wide-open scenery and starry nights. Best from April to October. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: April to October; peak meadow color May-August • Fitness level: moderate; Day 2 covers about 8 km / 5 hours with 400 m ascent and 1,200 m descent • Altitude up to about 1,900 m at the Golden Summit • Mountain guesthouse is basic (shared rooms/bathrooms common in peak season); private room subject to availability • Bring warm layers, rain gear, trekking poles and a headlamp for stargazing • Sunrise, cloud sea and star views depend on weather

Day 1: Pingxiang to Wugongshan Ridge | Grassland Trek & Stargazing

Meet your guide at Pingxiang station (08:30) and drive about 60 km (1.5 hours) to the trailhead village at the foot of Wugong Mountain. After a short rest and warm-up, begin the ascent around 10:30, climbing beside clear mountain streams on a well-trodden local path. After roughly three hours the trail opens onto Wugongshan's vast high-alpine grassland, with rolling golden meadows stretching to the horizon, perfect for photography.
