Looking back, I wasn't sure how much would fit into 3 days without feeling hurried. The balance worked better than I expected. The stop at the Mogao Grottoes had room to breathe instead of becoming another quick photo.
The unglamorous part: the private format mattered most between the main stops. No waiting for a coach to refill and no counting thirty people before moving on. I would still leave extra time for Dunhuang.
One thing I learned: traffic added time to the day, so comfortable shoes and a little patience helped. The visit itself did not feel shortened. With 3 days to work with, the balance felt sensible.
The route made more sense once we were on it. Time at the Mogao Grottoes set the pace, while Dunhuang gave us a reason to slow down.
