Honestly, I booked with two dishes in mind and left with a longer list. The trail gave the route a clear sense of place rather than feeling like random snacks.
Translation mattered as much as the cooking in this part of China. We could ask the host ordinary questions instead of relying on a rehearsed demonstration.
A practical note: this is not technical hiking, but it isn't a city stroll either. Starting early gave us a cooler, quieter stretch on the trail. With 3 days to work with, the balance felt sensible.
In hindsight, the route made more sense once we were on it. Time at this part of China set the pace, while the trail gave us a reason to slow down.
