The food came quickly, but the tour did not. We had time to ask where each dish came from and how people in Shanghai usually order it.
What helped was simple: the Shanghai meeting point was simple to find, and the food stops came at a sensible pace. There was time to ask what we were eating rather than just moving to the next plate.
Small tip: do not eat a large breakfast before the Shanghai tour. The portions at individual stops look modest, then suddenly you realise you have been tasting things for hours.
Looking back, I had a long list of things I thought I needed to see. After Shanghai, I was happier slowing down and noticing fewer things properly. For this itinerary, the number of stops was enough.
Honestly, worth doing for the food stops; worth remembering for the small stops in between.
